Twitch introduces channels for ‘offline’ chat
Twitch has made it possible for creators to open chat channels so that they can talk even when there is no live stream. It is possible to make these chat channels only accessible to subscribers.
The new functionality was previously announced, but now Twitch has actually made the new chat channels accessible. Creators have the option to create a chat channel, and can make it accessible to everyone, or, for example, restrict access to subscribers or the moderators on the channel.
By creating a chat channel, it is now also possible to talk ‘offline’. This means that the owner of the channel does not necessarily have to turn on a live stream to enable chat. It also gives the opportunity to chat with a more private character.
Currently, the chat channels are available on the web version of Twitch, as well as on the mobile applications. Twitch’s desktop app will later have chat channels available, but it is unclear when that will be: Twitch itself talks about ‘soon’.
