Twitch brings video-on-demand to mobile apps
Twitch has announced that video content-on-demand is now available via its mobile apps. However, archived video files do not last indefinitely and the old Twitch Android app must be uninstalled first.
Twitch says on its blog that users of the company’s content partners and regular users of the game streaming service can view previously saved footage via the Android and iOS apps. These images can be found in the so-called Activity Feed of the relevant app.
There are limits to the time that Twitch users can store video footage. Users without a paid account can keep videos for two weeks, while gamers with a Turbo or Partner account can rest videos on Twitch’s servers for 60 days.
In order to use the vod function, users of the Android app must first uninstall the old app, and then install the new version via Google Play. According to Twitch, this is necessary to prevent a potential security problem. In addition, at least Android 4.1 is required for the new app.
