Turn your residential area into Legoland online
Those who want to imagine themselves in a Lego world no longer have to go to an amusement park abroad. A developer has created a generator that is based on images in Google Maps.
Swedish developer Einar Öberg built the Brick Street View web application, which combines images from Google Maps with a generated environment. To this end, the Öberg uses LDraw, a free standard for LEGO CAD programs, among other things. LDraw is responsible for the generated carts and trees to make it all a bit more lively.
To load LDraw, the Swede uses BRIGL, a javascript library that puts the data in Three.js. This allows the environment to be generated. More technical details berg has put on the project’s about page. It also shows that he previously worked on a project to transform Maps images into a lifelike jungle.
Lego is often not only of interest to young creatives, but also to adults. Lego masters Dan and Christ Steininger built the world’s largest Millennium Falcon from Lego bricks in the run-up to Star Wars Day. Besides Han Solo’s ship, they also came with two TIE Fighter space fighters.
