Turkish government: Wikipedia is part of smear campaign against Turkey

The Turkish government has banned Wikipedia because, according to government spokesmen, the site is participating in an alleged smear campaign against Turkey. The Turkish government believes Wikipedia provided information that suggested that Turkey is collaborating with terrorists.

It is unknown exactly what information the Turkish government wanted removed. News channel Al-Jazeera reports that Turkish government spokesmen confirm the blockade. Wikipedia has begun to act as part of the circles carrying out a smear campaign against Turkey in the international arena, according to the spokespersons, rather than collaborating in the fight against terrorism.”

Wikipedia has refused to cooperate with the removal of certain information. Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales say via Twitter that access to information is a human right for which he and the Turkish people will always continue to fight.

On Saturday it turned out that the Turkish government had blocked Wikipedia. Turkey is more likely to block access to popular websites, including social media sites such as Twitter, YouTube and Facebook.
