Turkish government blocks access to Wikipedia

In Turkey, access to Wikipedia is blocked on Saturday. Turkish internet users receive a notification that the site has been made inaccessible by order of the government, but no reason for the blockage has yet been given.

On Saturday morning, reports came in about the blockade, which applies to both the Turkish and international versions of Wikipedia. Internet users with a Turkish IP address seem to be denied access to Wikipedia, so it remains possible to visit the site with a VPN provider.

Anyone attempting to access Wikipedia from Turkey will be notified that a blockade has been set by the Turkish government, but it is not clear for what reason. According to the report, the blockade will be confirmed by a court in the coming days.

Turkey is more likely to block access to popular websites, including social media sites such as Twitter, YouTube and Facebook. The country has come under a lot of criticism, but this seems to have no further influence on the policy of the Turkish government.
