Tunnel network for autonomous vehicles in Las Vegas uses Tesla S, 3 and X
The Loop tunnel network for underground transportation, which The Boring Company in Las Vegas is working on, will use existing Tesla cars. The company states on its website that the Tesla Model S, 3 and X will be used, and that they will reach 150 mph.
The Boring Company writes on its website that the existing Tesla models will be used in the so-called Loop system. When announcing the project last year, the company also said it would use Tesla cars, but it was not known at the time which model it was and there was speculation that it would be a modified design, with just the chassis of existing cars.
Owners of a Tesla do not seem to be supposed to bring their own vehicle into the tunnel. The Boring Company uses the cars of sister company Tesla as capsules for the underground means of transport. Perhaps the existing cars were chosen to complete the project quickly.
The Boring Company describes its Loop as an underground public transport system that operates at high speeds. The speeds go up to 150 miles per hour, or about 241km / h, according to the company. The system works with ‘compatible autonomous electric cars’. The company now specifically mentions the three Tesla cars.
The website of The Boring Company also contains renders of new stations. The company thus shows concepts of locations where passengers can board the transport system. The new information will be released in the run-up to the completion of the tunnel network in Las Vegas.
The Boring Company has been working on a project since last year to connect the exhibition halls of the Las Vegas Convention Center underground. The CES electronics fair takes place annually at that location.
