TSMC turnover fell last month for the first time in years
The turnover of Taiwanese chip manufacturer TSMC has fallen sharply for the first time since March 2019. This is evident from company figures. Compared to March last year, turnover fell by approximately 15 percent.
TSMC already said during the presentation of the previous discussion of the quarterly figures that it expected an influence from the decreased demand for electronics and this is now evident. Sales growth, which was above 20 percent per month throughout 2022, fell to 10 percent growth in January and February and has now fallen to a contraction of 15 percent compared to March last year. There was also a decline compared to February of this year.
The last time TSMC’s revenue shrank so sharply was four years ago, when the decline was 23 percent. Strong fluctuations also occurred regularly in the previous years. The largest of these was in 2009. Like many other tech companies, TSMC is suffering from the decreased demand for electronics. This is a change compared to previous years, when the tech sector was faced with a chip shortage. Samsung, another big name in chip manufacturing, said before the weekend it would scale back production to slow the price drop.
