Trump threat seems to be gone, but ByteDance may still sell part of TikTok

Things seemed to fizzle out: the US government wanted to ban TikTok, but it could also sell its US branch to a US company to avoid it. That now seems to be happening: not in the US, but in India.

The focal point in the US and in India is the same. TikTok is an increasingly popular social medium, but owner ByteDance is Chinese, so user data ends up in Chinese hands. That is undesirable, and so a construction is needed to ensure that domestic companies can determine the course of TikTok and monitor where data goes.
