The Canary version of Google’s Chrome OS includes a dark mode. Users can turn it on by manually activating a number of flags. It is not yet known when dark mode will be available to all Chrome OS users.

To start using dark mode right now, Chromebook owners will need to enable developer mode and set the Dev channel. In it, Google distributes early versions of the operating system, which are not yet stable.

Dark mode is not yet available as a menu option, but can be activated by adjusting two flags, Android Police writes. These are chrome: // flags / # enable-force-dark and chrome: // flags / # enable-webui-dark-mode, which must be activated. To make the operating system even darker, chrome: // flags / # dark-light-mode can also be enabled.

The Google browser has long had a dark mode, which works on Windows, macOS and Android, but when used on Chrome OS it causes problems. Google has also worked on a dark mode for Chrome OS in the past, but so far it has never actually appeared in the operating system.

The current implementation is still an early version, according to Android Police, which still requires a lot of work. For example, the title bar of many apps is not yet included in the dark mode, which remains white. Also, various elements in the interface have not yet been adapted to the dark theme. It is not yet known when dark mode will appear in the stable version of Chrome OS.
