Treyarch temporarily removes split-screen mode from Black Ops 4 Battle Royale
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s Battle Royale mode has temporarily lost its split-screen functionality. Developer Treyarch pulled it out to investigate some “known issues.” It is unclear when the mode will return.
The change was not reflected in patch notes, but was discovered by players themselves. A Treyarch employee then confirmed the move on Reddit. The studio promises to provide more information when the investigation into the problems is further advanced.
What problems these are is also not stated. It was known that the frame rate in split screen could fluctuate considerably, depending on how much graphics power was needed to render the two perspectives. That is always a stumbling block with split screen. The game’s Zombies mode still has split screen.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 has been available since October of 2018 and got a split screen mode quietly added sometime in the month after its release.
