Analyst firm TrendForce expects NAND flash memory prices to rise by more than half over the course of 2024. The major manufacturers are said to have reduced production to eliminate excess inventory and stabilize sales prices.

According to TrendForce the price of NAND flash memory must rise by at least more than 40 percent before the larger manufacturers can break even on the product. These major players, including Samsung, are said to have scaled back production of NAND chips a few months ago and focused more on the production of DRAM modules. The latter chips would be more profitable.

Samsung was the largest manufacturer of NAND flash memory worldwide in the third quarter of 2023. The South Korean company then had a market share of 31.4 percent. SK Group followed in second place with a 20.2 percent market share. Western Digital took third place with 16.9 percent market share, followed by Japan’s Kioxia with 14.5 percent. Micron completes the top five with a 12.5 percent market share.
