Transmission comes with Windows version of bittorrentclient

The release of an official beta build of the bittorrent client Transmission for Windows seems only a matter of time. Transmission is a popular client for Mac OS X and Linux. There has been an unofficial Windows Qt port for ages.

The Transmission forum states that the first beta of the Windows client will be version 2.90. This version contained ransomware in the OS X version. Then versions 2.91 and 2.92 appeared successively to solve the problems. The latter can also remove any ransomware itself from an OS X system.

For now, the official beta for Windows has not yet been published on the download section of the Transmission site. This is because the makers are still waiting for a certificate from Microsoft to sign the software. In that case, Microsoft does not classify the software as potentially dangerous.

The makers themselves say through developer mike.dld on the forum that they prefer not to offer an official, unsigned Windows build on the main site. On March 3, mike.dld announced that he would like to offer a beta signed with his personal code. Since it’s the first official release, there’s a lot of new code in there that hasn’t been “wild” tested, despite being based on the Qt client with a lot of existing code.

According to some on the Transmission forum, the release should still have the alpha label because the difference in quality and features with the Linux and OS X versions is still large. It is also possible to build a client for Windows yourself from source, but this requires Minimalist GNU or Cygwin.
