Trackers ban µTorrent users for ‘unfair behaviour’
Users of version 2 of the popular µTorrent client report being rejected on more and more trackers. µTorrent 2.0 would prefer peers who also work with the µTP protocol and thereby disadvantage others.
In µTorrent 2.0, BitTorrent Inc. an application of the µTP protocol. According to the developer, µTP, which uses the udp protocol, is more efficient due to lower overhead of the data packets. Providers in particular should benefit from large-scale use of µTP, because p2p users would put less strain on the network thanks to the congestion control algorithm. As a result, BitTorrent Inc. that isps no longer throttling torrent traffic.
Due to the popularity of µTorrent 2.0, the use of µTP is also increasing considerably, but downloaders who use the torrent client notice that private trackers in particular deny them access, so writes Torrent Freak. This is said to be because administrators of torrent sites see µTorrent as an ‘unfair’ client, because it has a preference for peers who also communicate with each other on the basis of µTP. As a result, users of other torrent clients that still work ‘normally’ via TCP/IP are offered less data.
Although µTorrent has been included on some blocklists of trackers, the problem will probably resolve itself over time. BitTorrent Inc. has released the µTP specifications and several developers have already expressed their interest in possible integration of the protocol. However, a complete open source implementation is not yet available. Furthermore, BitTorrent Inc. that it is still fine-tuning its µTP implementation and that it doesn’t expect public trackers to blacklist its torrent client as well.
