TP Vision will release new Philips OLED TVs in May and will not show a 48″ model yet
TP Vision has presented new Philips OLED TVs that the manufacturer will launch in May. Among them are traditionally a 55″ and 65″ model, but the company has not yet shown an OLED TV with a screen diagonal of 48″. This may follow later in the year.
TP Vision comes with the Philips OLED805 in sizes of 55 and 65 “and the manufacturer also releases the OLED855, which is only available as a 55” version. The only difference between the two is the fact that the 805, like the 804 and 803 of previous years, stands on two small, thin feet, while the 855 has a larger, central foot that somewhat resembles that of the 854-oled TVs. from last year. The new models will all have a base or feet in dark chrome.
The new OLED TVs again have the P5 image processor, which is now the fourth generation. According to TP Vision, this has AI support where the application of artificial intelligence is not used to improve, for example, the color, contrast, movement or sharpness; According to the manufacturer, the AI functionality provides a better balance between these factors. The feature divides the displayed content into five categories: landscape/nature, skin tone, sport/motion, black/contrast and animation. The television automatically selects the appropriate category and analyzes the factors mentioned, which should lead to a more natural or realistic picture.
There is also a 2.1 sound system with a power of 50W, which, according to TP Vision, involves a new woofer design in combination with two front speakers with updated drivers and tweeters. Like last year’s OLED TVs, both HDR10+ and Dolby Vision are supported, although there does not seem to be support for Dolby Vision IQ or any other similar function where a sensor picks up the ambient lighting, which then changes the image. adjusted, so that the image should, for example, stand out better in a lit room. Support for hdmi 2.1 is probably absent.
The OLED805 and OLED855 also get a new metal remote control, with the keys illuminated. The side and back of the remote control are covered with leather. It is not clear whether the back will also be equipped with a keyboard this year. The televisions run on version 9 of Android TV, have three-sided Ambilight and will be available in May. There are currently no suggested retail prices.
TP Vision also claims that it sold twice as many OLED TVs in 2019 as in 2018, although exact figures are missing. According to the company, 2019 was the best year ever, with a 30% increase in market share in the television market in Europe.
