TP Vision unveils Philips mini LED TVs with 1024 dimmable zones and HDMI 2.1
TP Vision has introduced two new high-end LCD TVs with a mini LED backlight. It concerns a model with a soundbar in the foot and a model where that is missing. Both TVs have a backlight with 1024 individually dimmable zones and support HDMI 2.1.
The Philips 9636 is the model that has a soundbar in its foot, which was made in collaboration with Bowers & Wilkins. This corresponds reasonably, for example, to last year’s OLED935, which also has a soundbar that also serves as a foot. According to the manufacturer, the 9636 is a 3.1.2 system with two upward-facing speakers for a more spacious effect. Dolby Atmos is supported, as is DTS Play-Fi. The television also has a four-sided Ambilight implementation and Android 10 TV.
Philips 9636
This model is available in 65 and 75 inch formats and has a high peak brightness of 2000cd/m² on paper. The contrast ratio is not mentioned, but that should be quite good for an LCD TV, because it is a VA panel. The 9636 also features a quantum dot filter and can display 95 percent of the DCI-P3 color space. VA panels generally have narrower viewing angles than IPS panels, with the advantage of higher contrast.
Like the newly announced Philips OLED TVs, the 9636 features the fifth generation of the P5 image processor. That means the presence of HDMI 2.1 with a bandwidth of 48Gbit/s and thus the support of, for example, 4k120 and Variable Refresh Rate from 40 to 120Hz. FreeSync Premium Pro is also present, as are e-ARC and Auto Low Latency Mode.
Philips 9506
In addition, TP Vision comes with the Philips 9506, also a mini LED TV with 1024 zones and with 65 and 75 inches as the available sizes. One difference is the peak brightness, which here is a maximum of 1500cd/m². Instead of a soundbar in the foot, the 9506 has two small rods as feet, which somewhat resembles the design of the 806 OLED TV. According to the manufacturer, the 9506 has a 2.1 50W sound system with support for Dolby Atmos. DTS Play-Fi is also available. For the rest, the specifications are the same as the 9636. The latency should be around 18ms with both miniLED models.
TP Vision has also presented the Philips 9206, a regular LCD TV without mini LED backlight that will be available with screen diagonals of 55 and 65″. It is not clear how many individually dimmable zones this TV will have, but there will be much less than with the According to the manufacturer, the 9206 also has a VA panel, although the brightness is not mentioned. This model also seems to have the latest version of the P5 chip, partly because HDMI 2.1 is present, including 4k120 and Variable Refresh Rate from 40 to 120Hz FreeSync Premium Pro is also present, as are e-ARC and Auto Low Latency Mode, Four-sided Ambilight is also present.

Finally, TP Vision comes with the Philips 8506, which will be available in 43, 50, 58, 65, 70 and 75 inch sizes. This is a cheaper model than the 9206, even though HDMI 2.1 is also present here. Ambilight is also present, albeit on three sides. Furthermore, the sound will be less high-quality, because the 8506 does not have a system with a power of 50W, but a 20W system.
The two mini LED TVs will be available from the summer, for unknown prices. Prices for the other two models are also not yet known, but they are still to be released in the second quarter of this year, with June being mentioned for the 9206.
