TP-Vision makes Android 8 Oreo update available for Philips smart TVs
The update to Android 8 Oreo for various Philips TVs with Android TV is available. This version includes a new interface. TP-Vision wants every suitable TV to be updated by Q2 2019.
According to FlatpanelsHD, the 2016 smart TVs will get the update first. The devices from 2017 and 2018 will then follow. The latest OLED TVs will run on Android 7 Nougat for a while after their appearance and will finally receive the update to 8 Oreo.
In the new interface, app providers can better highlight their content through channels. Apps that are less interesting for the user can put them in an ‘app drawer’. In addition, the 2017 and 2018 models will receive Google Assistant support.
In September, TP-Vision announced that it wanted to bring Android 8 Oreo to Philips smart TVs. According to CEO Piotr Herod, it took a year before the OS was stable enough for the televisions.
