TP Vision introduces Philips 807 OLED TV with brighter OLED EX panel

TP Vision has introduced the Philips OLED807, the successor to the 806 model that the company launched last year. The 807 will feature an OLED EX panel from LG Display that may offer higher brightness. TP Vision also comes with the cheaper 707.

TP Vision reports that the OLED EX panels offer a 30 percent higher brightness compared to regular OLED panels. That is in line with previous information that panel maker LG Display released at the end of last year when it already introduced these panels. By using deuterium in combination with a panel algorithm, these panels should be able to increase the brightness by the stated percentage.

It remains to be seen whether this also leads to very large and noticeable improvements in practice and to what extent TP Vision will actually control the Philips OLED807 TVs to get the peak brightness as high as possible. Incidentally, LG already has OLED TVs with so-called OLED evo panels that are also brighter than the regular panels and are also based on deuterium, so it will have to be seen how the OLED EX panels compare with this.

The 807 designates two of its four HDMI connections with version 2.1. They will support a bandwidth of up to 48Gbit/s. In this case, 4k120, VRR, FreeSync Premium, G-SYNC and Auto Low Latency Mode are supported. e-ARC is also supported, although it is only available on one of the two HDMI 2.1 connections. TP Vision wants to focus even more on gamers with a new ‘Game bar’ where users can quickly see and adjust the picture and sound settings. VRR, G-SYNC and FreeSync can also be quickly enabled via that Game bar.

The manufacturer processes the sixth generation of the P5 image processor in the OLED television. According to TP Vision, this means adding more “intelligence” to the use of the television’s light sensor to better adjust brightness, gamma and colors based on that.

TP Vision is not yet making the switch to Google TV with the 807; the model will receive Android TV 11 as its operating system. There is also support for all known HDR standards. This time it also includes IMAX Enhanced, although that is not a standard or format, but more a certification for a certain video and audio quality.

The Philips OLED807 will be available in four sizes: 48″, 55″, 65″ and 77″. There will also be a cheaper 707 model that only comes in 48″, 55″, and 65″. Another difference is that the 807 will have four-sided Ambilight, while the 707 will have it on three sides. TP Vision has not said anything yet about possible plans to also release OLED TVs in 42″, 83″ and 97″.

Furthermore, the 807 will have a relatively large and curved T-shaped foot, while the 707 will have small rod-shaped feet like those already on the 806. The 707 has to do without the OLED EX panel and will therefore achieve a lower peak brightness, but otherwise this model is largely the same, also in terms of HDMI 2.1 support.

During the announcement, TP Vision did not say anything about when both models will be available. That will probably be in the second half of this year, although the website FlatpanelsHD reports that the 807 and 707 will appear in the first half and that the manufacturer will then announce new models in the second half of 2022.
