TP Vision announces Philips UHDTVs with quantum dots and ‘floating’ soundbar
TP Vision has announced new Philips TVs in the 8000 series. The PUS8602 series consists of a 55″ and a 65″ model that are equipped with a 4k LCD panel with quantum dot technology. There is also three-sided ambilight and the TVs have an integrated soundbar.
It is the first time that TP Vision uses quantum dot LCD technology for its Philips TVs. The TV is equipped with a 4k LCD panel that can display 98 percent of the dci-p3 standard and probably also can handle the hdr formats hlg and hdr10.
The maximum brightness of the PUS8602 is 700cd/m². The Philips 65″ OLED television, also announced at the IFA fair, has a maximum brightness of 900 cd/m²; the existing 55″ OLED television, the 55POS9002, goes up to 750cd/m².
Just like these OLED televisions, the images of the PUS8602 are processed by a quad-core soc that is called the P5 Perfect Picture Processing Engine by TP Vision. According to TP Vision, this soc, in combination with a special upscaling algorithm, ensures that video material with a resolution lower than 4k is converted into images that should approach the UHD resolution.
The sound system consists of a seemingly floating integrated soundbar made of aluminum, with forward-facing speakers. The low tones are provided by a rear-facing ‘double ring’ speaker with integrated bass port. The combined power is 50W. Among other things, the DTS-HD Master Audio standard is supported.
The television is equipped with Ambilight lighting on the top and sides, so that the colors of the displayed image can be projected on the wall behind the television. The software is based on Android TV version 6 and the TV comes with the usual Philips remote control, which is equipped with a qwerty keyboard. For the time being, no information is known about price and availability.
