TP Vision announces new Philips UHDTVs

TP Vision introduced a number of new uhdtv product series at IFA. The 65″ top model was already announced in July, but TP Vision now also comes with two models in the 9100 series, a curved screen TV in the 8900 line and ‘entry-level’ models in the 7900 series.

In the 9100 series, TP Vision comes with two models with image diameters of 55″ and 65″. The 4k screens use micro dimming in the backlight. With fast action images, the 1000Hz perfect motion rate ultra-feature should improve the image quality.

TP Vision supplies a wireless 50W subwoofer with the 9100 models, while the television itself has two 15W speakers. The Philips devices have quadruple Ambilight and a hexacore soc. In addition to support for Android 4.2, the UHDTVs are the first to support Spotify Connect, according to TP Vision, where music can be selected on a tablet or browser to then play the tracks on the TV. Furthermore, the remote control contains a mouse mode and a mini keyboard on the back. The remote also contains a camera to recognize hand gestures and voice commands can be given via an integrated microphone. The 9100 devices still have to be on the market in the third quarter.

With the introduction of the Philips 8909, TP Vision follows the trend to release UHD devices with a curved screen. The device in the 8900 series has a screen diagonal of 55″. The UHDTV is placed on a newly designed base. Triple Ambilight is integrated in the housing. The supplied remote control is said to be identical to that of the 9100 models. The device also offers four HDMI connections, one of which complies with the HDCP 2.2 specification, and dual-band WiFi is also available for Android functionality.

In the latest uhdtv series, TP Vision comes with the ‘entry-level’ models in the 7900 model line. In it, TP Vision has included two UHDTVs with screen diagonals of 49″ and 55″, which have been given a thin aluminum screen edge. The TVs also have dual Ambilight and two digital tuners. For image enhancement, 600Hz perfect motion rate and micro dimming are available, with a quad-core SOC taking care of the calculations.

TP Vision has not yet provided its new uhdtvs with support for the hevc codec, also known as h.265, as standard. In order to still be able to play 4k content, the manufacturer has therefore announced the Philips UHD 880 Media Player based on Android L. The media player is equipped with an HDMI 2.0 connection for connection to a UHDTV. 4K content can be played using WiFi, Ethernet and USB. Which 4k providers the media player will work with will be announced at a later stage.

The UHD 880 will cost 249 euros separately and should be released early 2015, although TP Vision will make the media player available for free to buyers of a Philips uhdtv with model type 8809, the Curved 8909, the 9109 and the 9809.
