TP-Link Announces AV1200 Gigabit Powerline Adapter

TP-Link has shown a new powerline adapter at CES that can achieve gross throughputs of 1.2 Gbit/s. The TL-PA8030 uses the relatively new HomePlug AV2 standard, which should provide sufficient speed for data-intensive network applications.

The powerline adapter uses three wires of the electrical wiring – phase, neutral and ground – to make multiple connections. Together with mimo technology of the HomePlug AV2 protocol, speeds of up to 1.2 Gbit/s can be achieved.

According to TP-Link, the TL-PA803 adapter automatically configures the network connection over the power grid. Distances of up to 300 meters could be bridged, while data is encrypted using 128-bit AES encryption.

The adapter contains three gigabit Ethernet connections. TP-Link also states that the powerline adapter has a power-saving mode that consumes up to 85 percent less power and that the TL-PA803 is also compatible with older HomePlug protocols. The adapter should be in the shops in the third quarter for an unknown price.
