Toshiba Memory products will be released under Kioxia name from 2020
Toshiba Memory has changed its name to Kioxia. That name change will take effect on October 1, but consumer products will still be released this year with the Toshiba Memory name. From 2020, new products will be released under the Kioxia name.
It was already announced in July that Toshiba Memory would change its name to Kioxia as of October 1. It also became clear that brand names such as OCZ would disappear as a result. Now that the name change has been officially implemented, it is clear when that will take effect. The company writes that it will release products with the Kioxia name from 2020 onwards. New SSDs, SD cards and USB sticks released this year will still be released as Toshiba Memory products.
The new name Kioxia is a combination of the Japanese word ‘kioku’ and the Greek word ‘axia’. Those words are the translations of memory and value. With the name change, the company probably wants to make it clearer that it is separate from Toshiba. Toshiba Memory was created last year from the demerger of Toshiba’s memory division.
