Toshiba Introduces OCZ VX500 Series SATA SSDs
Toshiba has added a new series of OCZ SSDs to its range. The OCZ VX500 is a midrange line of consumer drives based on mlc-nand memory, which can be seen as the successor to the OCZ Vector 180.
The SSDs come in a 2.5″ housing with a thickness of 7mm on the market, with storage capacities of 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1024GB. The interface is SATA-600 and the controller is from Toshiba itself. Toshiba claims that the sequential read and write speeds of the VX500 models are up to 550 and 515MB/s respectively, which makes the write speed slightly lower than the 530MB/s of the Vector 180 SSDs that follow the VX500 drives.
The advertised random read and write performance is 92,000iops and 65,000iops. The ssds should have a longer lifespan than budget drives with tlc nand; Toshiba sets the stamina value at 74tbw to 592tbw. The manufacturer guarantees a five-year ShieldPlus warranty on the OCZ SSDs, whereby users can hand over the serial number of the SSD in the event of defects and look forward to a replacement.
The prices of the OCZ VX500 128, 256, 512 and 1024GB are 64, 93, 153 and 337 dollars respectively. Euro prices has not yet been announced by the manufacturer.
