Torchlight 3 is available in Early Access
Torchlight 3 is available in Early Access on Steam. The game features the first two acts, with their bosses, over 100,000 pieces of loot, and four playable classes. The game can be played alone or in co-op and costs 29.99 euros.
The release was announced during the PC Gaming Show. The game currently also has fortresses that can be upgraded, animal companions, which aid in combat, and relics, which grant special extra powers. The four classes are Dusk Mage, Forged, Railmaster, and Sharpshooter. These are both ranged and melee characters, to appeal to a wide audience. The creator explains them in the Early Access release notes.
Not only does act 3 have to follow, but after that there will also be an endgame. What that will entail is not yet known. Act 3 was available in closed beta, but developer Echtra Games wants to get Early Access feedback focused on the first two acts.
Torchlight 3 has had some course changes during its development. Initially it was supposed to be a free-to-play mmorpg, but the studio dropped that after testers recommended it. It was then decided that the game would be an action RPG just like its predecessors.
Torchlight came from Runic Games, which released parts 1 and 2 in 2009 and 2012. However, it closed its doors in 2017. The torch has been taken over by Echtra Games, led by Diablo and Blizzard veteran Max Schaefer.
