Tor version Twitter is offline after expired certificate
The Tor site of social medium Twitter is offline. The certificate has expired and it seems that the company has no interest in renewing it. The Tor version of Twitter has been around for almost a year.
It onion domain no longer works and the certificate expired on Monday, writes The Verge. The Tor Project reached out to Twitter prior to the certificate’s expiration, but showed no interest in renewing it. Twitter is no longer accessible via the onion domain and can only be accessed from Tor browsers via the regular url.
Twitter brought the Tor version online last year to allow users to bypass censorship in countries like China and Russia. With Tor, The Onion Router in full, internet traffic is routed through various tunnels to make tracing internet traffic more difficult. Competitor Facebook already came up with its own onion url in 2014.
