Tor Browser 8.0 uses captcha for request to bypass blocking with Bridge
The Tor Project has released Tor Browser 8.0, which includes a new way of requesting a Bridge. This is necessary if users use the browser on a network where Tor is blocked.
If users in Tor Browser 8.0 want a Bridge, they must fill in a captcha, the browser maker writes. In older versions, getting a Bridge requires sending an email or going to a website, which can be a risky operation with a network block without anonymization. The Tor Project hopes with the measure to provide more people who live under censorship with a browser that allows them to access all websites. A Bridge is a relay that is not in the Tor directory, so networks cannot block them.
The new version is based on Firefox 60 and also has a new interface with new process after the first start. It contains a better explanation of the functions and operation of Tor. The browser is not flawless: WebGL does not work in the browser, the developer says.
