TomTom’s new navigation app for iOS supports Apple CarPlay
TomTom has released a new version of its Go navigation app for iOS. The main improvements include support for Apple CarPlay, ‘moving lane guidance’ and offline maps that are updated weekly with current information.
Thanks to the support of Apple CarPlay, users can now also operate the TomTom Go app via their car’s infotainment system. Competing navigation and alerting apps such as Waze, Google Maps, Coyote and Flitsmeister have been taking advantage of this feature for some time, which Apple introduced in iOS 12 last September.
The TomTom Go app now also includes the new Moving Lane Guidance feature. This indicates in blue which lane the driver should take, which would be especially useful before or after a turn or fork. Furthermore, according to the developer, TomTom Go is the first navigation app with offline maps that are updated weekly with adjusted speed limits, road directions and new road blocks.
TomTom uses a subscription formula for its Go app. Users pay nine euros for six months, five euros every three months or two euros per month. There is a free trial period for all subscriptions. For now, the new app is only available for iOS, but TomTom hopes to have an Android version ready later this year.
