Tokina announces 20mm f/2 autofocus lens with Sony FE mount
Tokina has announced a bright 20mm wide-angle lens with a Sony FE mount. Tokina’s first autofocus lens for Sony’s system cameras should be released at the end of May.
The new Tokina Fírin 20mm F2 FE AF is a variant of the 20mm without autofocus that Tokina released early last year. The new version uses the same optical design, which consists of thirteen elements in eleven groups. Tokina sees the autofocus variant as an addition to the range and continues to sell the version without autofocus.
Tokina uses a ring-type focus motor and claims that the 20mm-f/2 FE AF focuses just as quickly as Sony autofocus lenses for the E-mount cameras. The 20mm is suitable for cameras with a full-frame sensor, such as the models from the Sony A7 and A9 series, but can also be used on cameras with an aps-c sensor. The wide-angle lens with autofocus should be available worldwide from the end of May. Tokina has not yet announced a price.
Tokina is also likely to come out with a new 50mm f/1.4 autofocus lens for Canon and Nikon DSLRs. An image of this already appeared online via the Japanese Nokishita blog. Rumor has it that the official announcement of the 50mm will follow on February 28.
