Tinkerers customize N64 controller for Xbox One
It appears to be possible to make a controller for the N64 console function with an Xbox One. A group of tinkerers have succeeded in this, and have shown a video showing the controller working as proof.
A demonstration video of the working N64 controller for Xbox One was published on YouTube. The makers, coming from Hyperkin, show that they have succeeded in making the controller suitable for the Microsoft console: the video shows how they navigate with the buttons for the menu. However, there is one major drawback to the N64 controller, which is that it doesn’t have two analog joysticks on it. Because only one is present, many modern games cannot be played. They require two of these joysticks.
The makers state that they have chosen to tinker with an N64 controller because of the upcoming release of the so-called Rare Replay bundle. These are 30, mostly old, games from game developer Rare that are being re-released. Hyperkin may be selling the custom controller for Xbox One, but nothing has been announced at this time. The video shows that the controller does not yet function properly: according to the makers, the wiring still needs to be improved.
