Tim Cook: Mac mini becomes important in our product range

Apple CEO Tim Cook hints at an update to the Mac mini, Apple’s compact desktop computer that hasn’t had an update in three years. According to the CEO, there are plans to make the Mac mini an important part of the lineup.

The time is not yet right to give details, Tim Cook reports, but he does reveal that there are “plans to make the Mac mini a major part of the lineup in the future.” The CEO writes that in an e-mail to a customer who asked whether the Mac mini will receive an upgrade. MacRumors publishes the email exchange.

Currently, the compact computer is languishing in Apple’s product range. The last update to the Mac mini was in late 2014, and the previous update was in 2012. While both of those announcements came in October, it seems unlikely that Apple will announce new Mac mini products this month or this year. Rumors about the arrival of new models are not yet there.
