TikTok starts offering feature to give parents control over account

Social medium TikTok is coming soon with a function to let parents manage accounts of children. For example, the maximum screen time can be set and parents can disable the use of private messages for children.

For the function, parents and children must link their accounts via a QR code, writes TIkTok. After that, in addition to managing screen time and turning off DMs, parents can also block videos that may be inappropriate. From the end of April, TikTok will turn off DMs for all users under 16. In addition, TikTok previously announced that users can no longer send photos and videos by DM, in order to prevent sexual exploitation of children.

The new account linking feature will be released in the coming weeks, but is likely already available to many users. In addition, parents can manage screen time and block certain types of videos in the app’s Digital Wellbeing options without having an account of their own.
