TikTok is suing the US government for attempting to ban the service
TikTok has sued the US government over the upcoming US ban on the app. According to the company behind the service, it has no choice but to go to court.
Commenting on this move, TikTok says that President Trump’s order of August 6 does not take into account the rights of the TikTok community, that there is no evidence to support the “ extreme decision, ” and that this order does not allow fair trial is possible. It is also said that 10,000 US jobs are at risk and irreparable damage will occur to the millions of US users of the app.
ByteDance, the Chinese company behind the app, reiterates that TikTok is not a threat to US national security. In the indictment, the company claims that the US government has ignored extensive efforts to address concerns. The company also believes that the app’s code falls under the First Amendment to the US Constitution, which refers to freedom of speech.
TikTok recently announced the advent of legal action. The mentioned executive order initially determined that the ban would go into effect in mid-September, but that was later postponed to November 12. Parent company ByteDance is now in advanced talks with Microsoft about an acquisition and according to rumors Twitter, Oracle and Alphabet were also interested.
