TikTok is going to tell users why video has been removed

TIkTok will tell account owners why their video was removed. The service did not do that until now. The step should clarify which rules have been broken, something many social media sites already do.

Creators will receive a new notification with a link to which rule the video is alleged to have violated, TikTok says. If the rule that has been broken is about self-harm or suicide, a second notification is added with texts for advice or links to places to get help.

The company has conducted tests with the new notification in recent months to see how it would fall. It showed that the number of objections to removals decreased by 14 percent. TIkTok has only been keeping track of why videos are removed since this year and was therefore unable to take the step earlier. TikTok is by no means the first to do this. Other social media have long reported on deleted posts, images or videos why the deletion was necessary and which rules would have been broken.
