TikTok allows users to monetize affiliate links

TIkTok will give its most popular users the opportunity to earn money by posting affiliate links, which will automatically give users a percentage of sales, the Financial Times reports.

The ability to use affiliate links is in plans for 2021, the Financial Times has seen in a document on those plans. In addition to affiliate links, TikTok also features modern variants of home shopping channels that have been on television in recent decades. In this ‘live shopping’, a TikTok user demonstrates a product and viewers can immediately buy it with a few clicks.

TikTok would also be working on a way for advertisers to get to the platform through self-service ads faster, something that is currently still done via a human seller. With the initiatives, TikTok seems to be focusing on commercial activities and making money on and through the platform. It is unknown whether all initiatives will immediately be active in the Benelux. TikTok’s parent company ByteDance has not commented on the release of the information.
