THQ Nordic Buys Rights to Alone in the Dark and Act of War Game Series
THQ Nordic has bought the rights to the Alone in the Dark series and the Act of War series from Atari. The Austrian publisher has already acquired the rights to Kingdoms of Amalur and TimeSplitters this year.
THQ Nordic announced on Twitter that it is de has acquired rights to the two game series. The publisher has not provided any further explanation, so it is not yet clear whether the company already has plans for these series.
The original Alone in The Dark came out in 1992 for MS-DOS and was developed by Infragames and Krisalis Software. It was the first survival horror game with 3d models at the time. In 2008 the series got a reboot. The last game to be released was Alone in the Dark: Illumination; this was the first game in the series with an online multiplayer mode.
The Act of War series began with the release of Act of War: Direct Action on March 18, 2005. In this Eugen Systems developed RTS game, the player leads a counter-terrorism team. The Direct Action storyline was written by Dale Brown, an author of several techno thrillers. A year later, on March 24, 2006, the High Treason expansion was released. Act of Agression, the last game in the series, was released in 2015.
