Thousands of Proximus customers without internet and telephony after vandalism
Thousands of Proximus customers are without internet and telephone connections after vandals broke into provider facilities and cut cables over the weekend. Alarm systems and payment systems are also offline.
Last Saturday, Proximus buildings in Gosselies and Montignies-sur-Sambre were broken into. The perpetrators allegedly did not steal anything, but cut several cables. “Our technicians went to the places when the alarm went off and are restoring the connections,” Proximus spokesperson Jan Margot told RTL-TVI.
Thousands of customers in places such as Nivelles, Gosselies and Ransart would be without a telephone or internet connection. For some, the connection would have been restored by Sunday, but others could experience problems for days. In addition to consumers, payment systems from various banks would also be offline and alarm systems in the region would no longer function. Nothing is known about the motive for the vandalism. Proximus was previously called Belgacom, the name change was announced in March.
