Thirty-year-old platform game Flashback gets a successor
Flashback 2 will be released at the end of this year. It is a successor to the 1992 sci-fi platform game Flashback. The successor is being made by the French developer Microids, with the help of the original creator and members of the team that worked on the first part.
Microids shows a first teaser of Flashback 2 and reports that the game will be released in the winter of 2022 for the PC and PlayStation and Xbox consoles. A version for the Nintendo Switch will also be released in 2023.
The new game is a sequel to the 30 year old first part. The makers promise a new story with main character Conrad B. Hart, action and puzzles. Flashback 2 partly takes place in new environments, such as Neo Tokyo and ‘a mysterious space station’, but also in environments that already existed in the first part, such as Neo Washington and the jungle.
Flash Back (1992)
Flashback from 1992 was created by the French studio Delphine Software and was created by Paul Cuisset. The game was released for the Amiga, MS-DOS, Sega Mega Drive and Super Nintendo. According to Microids, the new game will be made in close collaboration with Cuisset and his team. In addition to the creator of the original, designer Thierry Perreau and composer of the Amiga soundtrack Raphaël Gesqua are also involved in making the successor.
According to Microids, Flashback was praised in 1992 for its innovative animations. The developer wants the new game to excel in this and has recruited stuntman Jamel Blissat for motion capture. Blissat also did the stunt work for the TV series Marvel’s Moon Knight.
