Third version Emiew robot from Hitachi should, among other things, give tourists information
Hitachi has unveiled a new version of its Emiew robot, Emiew3. The robot is intended to provide services in places such as stations, airports and hospitals. In addition to Japanese, he also speaks three other languages, including English.
This third generation Emiew has to compete with Pepper from Softbank. Emiew is faster, he can go 6km/h in contrast to Pepper’s 2km/h, is more agile than his competitor and can get up on his own after a fall. Emiew3 is the first version of the series that is intended to actually be released on the market. The company will deliver the first Emiew3s from 2018, Hitachi hopes.
In a short demonstration, the company showed Emiew3 talking to a ‘foreign’ tourist who asks in English where the tourist information is after the robot greeted her in Japanese. The robot then answers her in English.
The robot has wheels under its feet and uses various sensors to understand its environment, such as cameras and microphones. The robot also makes use of a network not specified further to process the information.
