THEC64 Mini – Can the little Commodore charm?
The Commodore 64 is the most popular home computer ever. It came on the market in 1982 and remained in production for no less than twelve years. It offered great value for money; there was no less than 64 kilobytes of memory and it was equipped with a good keyboard. The main advantage over the competition, however, was the custom chipset. The VICII video chip had features such as hardware scrolling and sprites, which made it ideal for playing games. The SID sound chip was also much more advanced than anything on the market until then.
In recent years, many successful game consoles from the 1980s and 1990s have been re-released in a mini version. Nintendo in particular had great success with the NES and SNES Classic Mini. Following on from this, there is now THEC64 Mini; a small version of the Commodore 64, which uses a modern soc under the skin. In this video we see if the mini version is just as good as the original.
