The Settlers maker shows first in-game trailer of new city builder
Envision Entertainment has shown the first in-game footage of Pioneers of Pagonia. Volker Wertich, designer and programmer of the original 1993 The Settlers game, plays an important role at Envision. Pioneers of Pagonia is a city builder game.
According to Envision, the trailer shows pre-alpha in-game footage. The images show, among other things, how the residents plant a new forest, then cut down trees in this forest and process them into planks. The residents also have to cut stones in order to eventually erect more buildings. The trailer also hints at enemies, in the form of werewolves.
The German studio announced the game in February. Wertich is Creative Director at Envision and wants to go ‘back to the beginning’ of city builders with the game, with ‘thousands’ of residents and a focus on the simulation of the game world and the economy. The game world and objectives will be procedurally generated, and the game comes with more than forty buildings and seventy different goods.
Pioneers of Pagonia will be released as an Early Access game on Steam at the end of this year. The developer expects the game to remain in Early Access form for at least six months, with additional features, buildings and production chains being added along the way.
