The PS5 has been sold 40 million times
Sony’s PlayStation 5 has been sold 40 million times. The Japanese company also states that the ‘built-up demand’ for the console is ‘finally being met’ because the console is ‘plenty in stock’.
Sony had sold a total of 32.1 million PS5s by the end of the fourth quarter last year, so almost 8 million more have been sold since then. It has only been since the fourth quarter of last year that console sales have taken off, most likely because production is only now increasing.
The PS5 was poorly available for a long time due to the corona pandemic. Lockdowns brought parts of the console production chain to a standstill. At the same time, the same lockdowns caused an increased demand for consoles, because such ‘indoor entertainment’ was not hindered there.
In the same announcement, Sony also comes with a list of the 40 best games for the console. Interestingly, despite the PS5 having more than 2,500 games, Astro’s Playroom is also on that list. Although it is a game, it is also a tech demo for the console and a tutorial about the new and existing functions of the device. The list is also filled with well-known games such as Call of Duty, Demon’s Souls, Horizon Forbidden West, but also more indie-esque games such as Hades, Inscryption and Disco Elysium.
