The renowned American newspaper The New York Times will from now on also offer its content via Flipboard. Subscribers can read all newspaper and website articles via the Flipboard apps for Android and iOS.

The content from the newspaper will be available from Thursday, reports The New York Times’ own Bits weblog. On which devices the newspaper can be read via Flipboard, depends on the type of subscription that has been taken out.

Those who have a subscription with smartphone access can read The New York Times in the Flipboard apps for smartphones; access to the newspaper on the Flipboard tablet apps requires a more expensive tablet subscription. Flipboard users without a subscription to the newspaper can only read the latest news section.

Flipboard and The New York Times share the ad revenue generated by the partnership. The newspaper will place striking full-screen advertisements between the articles.

The newspaper itself also has applications for iOS and Android, but research would show that one in five NYT subscribers uses applications such as Flipboard. It is the first time that The New York Times offers its articles through another medium, but the newspaper says it will come up with more collaborations later this year.

The New York Times was one of the first newspapers with a general audience to successfully set up a paywall. A subscription is charged between $15 and $35 every 4 weeks, depending on the type of device used to access it. Non-subscribers can read 10 articles every 4 weeks for free.
