The Linux Foundation calls GitHub acquisition by Microsoft good news
The Linux Foundation thinks the open source community has something to celebrate now that GitHub has been acquired by Microsoft. According to the foundation, Microsoft has the resources to improve the platform.
Jim Zemlin of The Linux Foundation generally expects good things from Microsoft’s acquisition of GitHub, and he says the open source world probably needn’t be concerned: “Buying GitHub doesn’t mean Microsoft is embroiled in a sinister plot to get the more than Get your hands on 70 million open source projects on GitHub.”
He points out that Microsoft itself is now making important contributions to Linux and Kubernetes, a project of The Linux Foundation. “They develop and distribute Linux-based products, have made .NET open source, and they support The Linux Foundation, the Apache Software Foundation, the Open Source Initiative, and many similar initiatives.”
Furthermore, he refers to the statement of the upcoming CEO of GitHub, the founder of Xamarin, Nat Friedman. He said, “I am not asking for your trust, but commit me to earn it.” According to Zemlin, under the leadership of Satya Nadella, Microsoft has made the shift from an adversary from open source to a model citizen.
