HBO has apparently chosen not to reveal the premiere date pontifically. The series is not only distributed by HBO Max, but also produced. In the UK, a release date of January 16 is reported, which may be based on a difference in time zones.

The first season of the series will contain ten episodes, it was previously announced. Pedro Pascal plays the lead role and takes on the role of Joel. He previously played Prince Oberyn Martell in Game of Thrones. Bella Ramsey, who previously played Lyanna Mormont in the same series, plays the role of Ellie.

The main responsible behind the scenes are Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin. The latter was also the creator and writer of the 2019 HBO series Chernobyl. Neil Druckmann is the author of the Last of Us games and several Uncharted games.

The Last of Us is originally a third-person action game for PlayStation consoles. Players take on the role of Joel who tries to protect teenage girl Ellie in a kind of zombie apocalypse in the United States. Society has collapsed, making not only the zombies, or Cordyceps, a threat, but also the other surviving humans.

The Last of Us was released for the PS3 and PS4, but a remake of that first game is available for the PlayStation 5. A Windows version is also being worked on. The Last of Us Part II is currently only available for the PlayStation 4. The developer of the games is Naughty Dog.
