The Evil Within update removes black bars for PC

Bethesda has released a PC update for The Evil Within that should remove the much-discussed horizontal black bars. Players now have the option to maximize the game screen so that no screen space is wasted.

The Evil Within has been given a fixed aspect ratio at release that should provide a kind of cinema experience. In practice, however, players perceived the black bars as lost screen space. To fix that problem, Bethesda has released an update that removes the black borders. It’s just a choice; if desired, players can still play with the bars.

In addition, the update gives players with a high-end PC the option to switch between 30 and 60 fps. Some minor issues have also been fixed, such as the issue starting the game in windowed mode.

The update will be installed automatically when the game is launched, according to Bethesda. There is no mention of whether such an update is on the way for consoles as well. The Evil Within was released on October 14 for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC.
