The creator of Silent Hill horror games leaves Sony and starts his own studio

Keiichiro Toyama, the creator and director of the Silent Hill games, has left Sony after 20 years and started his own studio. Bokeh Game Studio will work independently on its own games. Two other former Sony leaders are also joining.

Besides Toyama, Kazunobu Sato and Junya Okura are involved in setting up the new independent studio. Sato was lead designer on The Last Guardian and Okura had the same role on the Gravity Rush games. According to the founders, more developers with whom they previously worked will start working Bokeh Game Studio.

The three worked at Sony’s Japanese game studios and left there to work independently on games. The developers say they want to meet the expectations of fans, but concrete new projects have not yet been announced.

Keiichiro Toyama was the creator and director of the Silent Hill horror games. A game in that series last appeared in 2012. While Hideo Kojima was still working at Konami, work was done on new titles in the series, but that was stopped when Kojima left the publisher. The rights of the series are still with Konami. Toyama was also the director of the Gravity Rush games.
