‘The Coalition is focusing all its arrows on developing Gears 6’
The Coalition, the game studio and Microsoft subsidiary, is now turning its attention to developing third-person shooter Gears 6; two other projects within the studio have been scrapped. So says games industry insider Jeff Grubb.
So writes include Video Games Chronicle. It is not clear what those two other projects were. It is known that The Coalition was also used to support the development of Halo Infinite and that the studio helped develop the Matrix Awakens tech demo for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series. There have also been recent redundancies at The Coalition, says Kotaku.
The layoffs and shifting of focus to other projects is a phenomenon that is currently happening more often in the tech and games industry. Recently layoffs were made at 343 Industries, Bethesda, PayPal, Spotify, Google, Amazon and Microsoft. EA recently scrapped Battlefield Mobile and Apex Legends Mobile, and a new Titanfall has reportedly been canceled as well. This is due to disappointing financial prospects.
The game isn’t the only piece of Gears of War media in development. Netflix is working on two projects with the franchise. That will be a live action film and an animated series.
