Tests show that iPhone 14 Pro Max can charge with up to 27W
The iPhone 14 Pro Max can fast charge with a maximum power of 27W, according to the first fast charging tests of the device. The iPhone 14 remains stuck at 25W. A maximum of 29W can be achieved briefly with an old charger, but that is not the standard.
The tests come from, among others: ChargerLAB and some Chinese test websites, such as Chongdiantou. They looked at the maximum charging speed of the new iPhone 14 models, which were presented earlier this month. Apple only said during the presentation that the phones could charge quickly, to a half-full battery in half an hour with a 20W charger, but without mentioning specifications. ChargerLAB looked at maximum charging speeds with Apple’s own chargers and third-party chargers.
According to Chongdiantou, those tests show that the iPhone 14 Pro Max, the most expensive new model, can be charged with up to 27W when paired with the 29W charger with USB-C that used to ship with MacBooks. At ChargerLAB, that comes out to just under 29W, but only briefly. That power only applies to that charger from Apple; other models from the manufacturer, even faster chargers like the 30W and 35W chargers, are stuck at a maximum of 26W. That older 29W charger is also no longer for sale since 2018.
According to Chongdiantou, the power of that charger with the iPhone 14 remains at 25W. Also, third-party chargers with higher charging speeds don’t get more than a maximum of 27W, ChargerLAB says.
