Test app for ‘Oculus Assistant’ appears on Quest headset
A test app for something to be called Oculus Assistant has appeared in the firmware for the Oculus Quest. That reports UploadVR. The app opens and asks for permission to record audio, but does nothing else.
In the developer settings, the app called Oculus Assistant Service appears. When opened, the name Assistant Test Service appears at the top of the screen, UploadVR says. After asking permission, the app only shows a gray image. The app is included in the Quest v10 firmware.
The presence of the app on the Quest indicates that Facebook has begun testing the feature on the headset. The company announced in April that it was working on the software for Oculus headsets and Portal devices. It is unclear what exactly the assistant can and does. Facebook says it can’t say anything to UploadVR.
