Tesla still gets approval for construction of Gigafactory in Germany

Tesla has been given permission to proceed with the plans for the Gigafactory in Germany. This means that the company can use a wooded area of ​​91 hectares in the Berlin area to produce batteries and cars.

A Berlin court has ruled that Tesla may continue to build its gigafactory. With this, the authorities are going against a charge by environmental organizations, who had asked for a construction stop because a piece of forest has to be cut for the factory; an area of ​​91 hectares has been set aside for Tesla’s new gigafactory.

Tesla wants to manufacture batteries for its electric cars in the new factory. The company also wants to build the cars there itself, including the new Model Y, and perhaps the Model 3 at a later date. Opponents believe, however, that the factory will cause chemical pollution and extract groundwater from the environment. In addition, the prosecutors allege that Tesla had already started cutting trees before the necessary permits were issued, so they decided to take the step to court.

In November, Tesla announced that it would start building a new gigafactory in the Berlin area. Last week, however, the company had to temporarily stop construction activities due to the lawsuit brought by environmental organizations.
