Tesla shows new interior Model S and X with modified steering wheel without levers
Tesla has released images of the interior of the updated Model S and X. This shows that there is a modified design for a steering wheel, which no longer has a round shape or handles. There would also be a pretty powerful computer for games.
Tesla refers to the steering wheel with the term ‘Yoke steering wheel’. Images of the interior can already be seen on their own website during the ordering process of the new Model S and the X. The steering wheel no longer has traditional levers to indicate the direction and operate the windscreen wipers, for example. According to the website Elektrek, the control options for these functions are incorporated in the steering wheel, in the form of force touch buttons. There are buttons for indicating the direction, high beam, horn, Autopilot, the windshield wipers and giving voice commands.
Based on internal Tesla documents, Elektrek states that the updated Model S and X use Autopilot sensors and AI to determine which driving mode the software should activate. For example, the car would detect if the nose is against a garage door, after which the gear is automatically put into reverse after the driver presses the brake pedal. This no longer has to be done manually. The latter is still possible; To this end, Tesla has simply processed the various settings of an automatic gearbox in the central console.
Furthermore, the front 17″ screen is now tilted and thus placed in landscape orientation, instead of the vertical orientation in previous models. The format is unchanged, but the resolution has been increased from 1900×1200 to 2200×1300 pixels.
